# Google Business Profile: How to Move to a New Address

How to Move a Google Business Profile When Your Business Changes Address starts with one rule: edit the listing you already have. When a business moves, the first instinct is often "new address, new listing." Don't do that. Your reviews, photos and history live on one profile, and starting fresh throws all of it away. Here is what to touch, and in what order.

## How to Move a Google Business Profile When Your Business Changes Address: what actually moves and what stays

A Google Business Profile change of address keeps your reviews, photos, star rating and description, but your position in Google Maps results can shift. That happens because your listing is tied to a location Google trusts, and search results lean on how close you are to the person searching.

If you edit the address instead of creating a new listing, the profile itself stays the same. What changes is your proximity to local searches. Moving to a new postal code or a different part of Greater Montréal puts you closer to some searchers and farther from others, and that is where visibility can change.

## Edit the existing profile instead of creating a new one

Edit the address on your existing profile, because Google ties your reviews, photos and ranking history to that listing, not to the street address. A second listing starts with none of it.

If you need help with the edit itself, our [Google Business Profile service](/services/google-business-profile/) covers the move from start to finish. Either way, plan for a short review period after you save the change.

### Re-verification and temporary visibility changes

Google usually asks you to verify the business again after an address change, especially when the new location is not a short distance away. This is normal. Here is what typically happens:

1. Google flags the change and asks you to confirm you operate at the new address. The method varies, and Google shows the available options in the profile.
2. While the review runs, the listing can drop out of search results or show a status that looks alarming.
3. Visibility comes back once verification clears. Google does not commit to a timeline, so neither do I.

Plan any ad campaigns around that gap, and keep your website and Meta pages current so people can still find you while the review runs.

## Name, address and phone consistency across the web after a move

Name, address and phone (NAP) consistency means your business details look identical everywhere online once the move is done. When the website, directories, social profiles and invoices all agree with the profile, Google has one less reason to doubt the new location.

Start with your own website, then work outward to directories such as Bing Places and Apple Maps. For a Québec business with a bilingual site, check that the French business name is written the same way on the French pages, the English pages and the profile.

### Website footer, contact page and local schema

Your website has to match the new address exactly, down to the suite number and postal code. I check three places first:

1. Footer: every page should show the current address and phone number.
2. Contact page: the same details, written the same way as on Google.
3. Local schema: hidden code that tells search engines your business details directly. People often forget this one, and an outdated schema keeps pointing at the old location after the visible text has changed.

When all three agree, customers also find the right door faster.

## Service area, hours and photos for the new location

Service area settings matter as much as the address, because Google uses them to decide which nearby searches can show your profile. If you serve clients at their location, update the area you cover so it reflects where you now travel from.

Next, check your hours. If the new location keeps different hours, change them right away, holiday hours included, so nobody shows up to a locked door.

Then add fresh photos of the new building, inside and out, with the sign and the parking area. They help customers recognize the place and give Google current images to show.

## Handling customers who still go to the old address

Customers who still go to the old address usually rely on saved maps, old bookmarks or habit, so tell them about the move early and in more than one place. Three steps cover most cases:

1. Publish a short post on your profile announcing the move and the new address.
2. Leave a sign at the old location with the new address.
3. Email or text recent customers, especially regulars. If you pull contact details from your systems for this, handle them under Loi 25: use them only for the purpose customers agreed to.

When a review mentions the old location, reply with the new address so later readers see it. Google needs time to show the update everywhere, so expect a few people to keep using the old directions for a while.

## Post-move checklist for a Québec small business

A Québec small business moving to a new address still has a few tasks left after the profile is updated. Skipping one can hurt your local search presence without anyone noticing.

 | Task | Why it matters |
| --- | --- |
| Update the website footer, contact page and schema | Google and customers read the same information |
| Check directory listings and social profiles | Mismatched addresses confuse search engines |
| Update invoices and email signatures | Legal and customer-facing details stay consistent |
| Ask regulars for fresh reviews at the new spot | Shows the new location is active |
| Check Google Maps, Apple Maps and AI search answers | Catches places still showing the old address |
| Watch the profile for the first month | Catches errors early |

If moving changes how calls reach you, our system for [calls from Google Maps](/systems/calls-from-google-maps/) is built for that. And if you would rather we handle the whole move, you can [ask for a proposal](/get-a-proposal/).
